Dyad Training Format

Soul Surfing is a Relational Approach to Ketamine-Assisted Psychotherapy (KAP). It can be used to work with individuals, any safe relationship (couples, families with adult children, friends) or groups.

Because of this, all participants train in dyads (pairs).

Why a Dyad?

Soul Surfing requires every participant to experience the Soul Surfing process both personally and professionall–alternating roles as client and therapist/coach

This is foundational to the philosophy of the training: you can only guide clients as far as you have gone yourself.

Your nervous system must know how to intentionally inhabit the states you hope to help others access

Depth of personal work directly strengthens clinical skill— minimizing projection and increasing attuned, well-scaffolded support
Choosing a Dyad Partner

We strongly recommend attending with a trusted colleague.

This should be someone:

Who can engage professionally and relationally with integrity to maintain your confidentiality

With whom you feel safe sharing your vulnerabilities:
History
Attachment Style & Trauma Patterns
Current Challenges
Desired Growth

Although this training is not therapy, Soul Surfing KAP intentionally works with ketamine to temporarily lower emotional defenses and increase vulnerability. The Soul Surfing approach carefully maps vulnerabilities, strengths, challenges, and resources in preparation to intentionally scaffold ketamine-assisted corrective emotional experiences.

If you do not have someone in mind, we will thoughtfully assign a partner based on:

Years and level of professional experience

Clinical interests and specializations

Relevant demographics or practice context

Overall relational fit

Our goal is a safe, growth-oriented partnership.

Soul Surfing KAP:

  • Integrates ketamine with empirically validated trauma-informed, attachment-based models

  • Clarifies and streamlines assessment and preparation

  • Provides a structured, attuned approach to facilitating medical administration sessions as corrective experiences for trauma and insecure attachment patterns
  • Strengthens clients’ capacity for integration

  • Supports lasting change long after medicine sessions conclude

Your dyad partner will attend your private KAP session (via Zoom if needed), and you will attend theirs.

This allows you to:

  • Experience Soul Surfing KAP personally
  • Observe by shadowing Dr. Gold’s facilitation approach in real time
  • Enter the experiential retreat with shared context and preparation

These sessions also provide a clinical baseline — helping us understand how your nervous system responds to ketamine and to the Soul Surfing process. This ensures we can support you thoughtfully and optimize your experience within the group setting.

*Please Note:

Our primary focus is your safety, stability, and overall wellbeing.

If unresolved trauma emerges during your private session and you and/or Dr. Gold determine that additional individual therapy or coaching would be beneficial before participating in the group ketamine process, you may choose to attend the group sessions as an observer and support for your dyad partner rather than receiving ketamine in the group setting.

Dr. Gold also reserves the clinical discretion to recommend that a participant refrain from group ketamine administration if she determines that doing so would best support the participant’s safety and well-being.

Before the in-person retreat, each dyad will complete:

  • One 1-hour Preparation Session (Zoom)

  • One 2-hour Medical Administration Session

    • Via Zoom

    • Or in Barcelona if arriving the week prior

These sessions must be completed before the experiential retreat.

Soul Surfing Trainings are experiential by design.

You don’t just learn about ketamine-assisted psychotherapy—you experience the process yourself, so you can facilitate it with depth, clarity, and embodied confidence.

This training is for clinicians who know that reading protocols isn’t enough.

To guide others safely through altered states, nervous system activation, vulnerability, and transformation—you must first understand these processes from the inside.

At Soul Surfing, we believe the most effective KAP clinicians are not just well-trained—they are well-resourced, well-oriented, and embodied.

You will learn how to facilitate ketamine-assisted psychotherapy by being guided through the same arc your clients experience: preparation, facilitation, and integration. This inside-out approach allows you to internalize the principles of trauma-informed, attachment-based KAP—not as theory, but as lived knowledge.

When you’ve felt it in your own body, nervous system, and emotional landscape, you can recognize it instantly in your clients—and respond with precision, presence, and attuned support.

You Will Learn How to Facilitate KAP Through Direct Experience, Including:

  • Experiencing the full KAP arc
Preparation, facilitation, and integration—so you understand how each phase builds on the next and why none of them can be skipped.
  • Learning to orient clients during ketamine sessions
How to support grounding, coherence, and emotional safety when clients feel disoriented, dissociated, or “lost in space.”
  • Developing nervous system literacy from the inside out
Learn to track activation, titration, and regulation in real time—first in yourself, then in others.
  • Practicing trauma-informed, attachment-based facilitation
How to provide attuned presence, co-regulation, and corrective relational experiences during ketamine sessions—without overriding the client’s autonomy or inner process.
  • Understanding the difference between non-directive and skillfully directive KAP
When to step back, when to intervene, and how to do so in a way that supports safety, integration, and lasting change.
  • Learning to work across body, heart, mind, and meaning
Integrating somatic awareness, emotional processing, cognitive re-patterning, and relational repair.
  • Embodied preparation practices
Tools you can immediately use with clients to clarify intentions, identify old patterns, and rehearse new ways of being before ketamine sessions.
  • Integration as a lived process, not an afterthought
Learn how to anchor insights into daily life, relationships, and nervous system patterns—so transformation lasts.
  • Experiencing the full KAP arc
Preparation, facilitation, and integration—so you understand how each phase builds on the next and why none of them can be skipped.

Ketamine does not reliably create orientation, meaning, or secure connection on its own.

Without skilled facilitation, clients may experience dissociation without integration, insight without embodiment, or relief without lasting change.

Soul Surfing trains you to become the steady, attuned presence your clients need—the longest pendulum in the room—so ketamine becomes a catalyst for developmental repair, emotional safety, and secure attachment, not just symptom relief.

This training is designed for licensed clinicians and medical providers who want to:

  • Deepen their capacity to facilitate ketamine-assisted psychotherapy
  • Move beyond rigid protocols into responsive, relational care
  • Develop confidence working with trauma, attachment wounds, and vulnerable states
  • Learn in a way that is embodied, experiential, and clinically grounded
